Our catholic friends, we love you but we MUST present the Truth....

Overview of how Catholic faith contradicts the Bible

A. False view of Mary

  1. Catholics teach Mary was a perpetual virgin having no other children after Jesus; Jesus had brothers & sisters: Mt 13:55,56; Mark 6:3; remained virgin only until Jesus was born: Mt 1:25
  2. Catholics teach that Mary is a mediator between God and man; whereas, the scriptures reveal that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man: 1 Tim 2:5.

B. False view of Peter

  1. Catholics teach that the apostle Peter was the first pope; yet Popes didn't exist until 600AD.
  2. Catholics teach Peter, being the first Pope, wasn't married; A Catholic leader said, if Peter had a wife, he got rid of her...quick! Yet Peter had a wife: Mt 8:14; 1 Cor 9:5; Mk 1:30; Lk 4:38

C. False view of church leaders

  1. Pope is the highest office in the church; yet is not found in the scriptures! 2 Thess 2:3-4.
  2. Catholics teach that 'Bishops' must not be married: whereas, 1 Ti 3:2-4; Titus 1:5-7 shows that Bishops must not only be married but must also have children.
  3. Catholics teach that all priests, bishops & Popes are forbidden to marry; The Bible calls "forbidding to marry" a "doctrine of demons" in 1 Ti 4:1-4
  4. Catholics teach that priests are to be called 'Father', yet Jesus forbade this: Mt 23:9.
  5. Priests are special class of Catholic followers; Bible teaches every Christian is priest: Rev 1:6.
  6. A Catholic 'Saint' is an exemplary individual who has been dead for many years and has been voted upon by leaders to become a saint; But every Christian is a saint while they live: Rom 1:7

D. False view of salvation, heaven & hell

  1. Catholics say that infants inherit their parent's & Adam's sin: Ezek 18:20; Mt 18:2,3.
  2. Catholics sprinkle when the Greek work for baptism literally means immersion. Acts 8:34-39
  3. Catholics expect to suffer fiery punishment in proportion to their sins in purgatory after which they will cross over to paradise. Yet our fate is eternally sealed at death and there is no crossing over: Lk 16:26-31; Heb 9:27. Jesus taught unconditional forgiveness of our sins not penance.

E. False view of worship

  1. Catholics deleted the 2nd of the 10 commandments so they could use statues & images in worship. (They split the 10th on coveting into two commandments so they could still have 10)
  2. Until very recently, in SOME PARTS OF THE WORLD, only the priests drink the cup in communion; Yet Jesus commanded all Christians to both drink the cup and eat of the bread: Mt 26:26-29; 1 Cor 11:23-28. The lack of uniformity both over time and in different places, proves that Catholic doctrine is constantly changing and inconsistent! The question is, why, for many years were only the priests allowed to drink the cup, when the Bible says that all believers are to drink the cup?
  3. Catholics pray repetitive words with a rosary; Jesus warned us not to pray like that: Mt 6:7
  4. Catholics believe the church is a building instead of Christians themselves.
  5. Mass is often conducted in Latin in North America: see 1 Cor 14:19
  6. Catholics observe special holy days on a yearly calendar: see Gal 4:10-11

F. False view of the Bible as the only source of religious authority

  1. Catholics believe that Peter is the foundation of the church. Christ is the foundation: 1 Cor 3:11
  2. Catholics are taught that only the priests can understand the Bible and the common man cannot; But the scriptures say that when anyone reads they can understand, Eph 3:4, Rom 15:4.
  3. Catholics will not personally defend their faith from the Bible but will instead refer to what the priest teaches. Yet every Christian must be able to defend the faith themselves: 1 Pe 3:15.

Why do Catholics Oppose Bible?

The reason Catholics oppose the Bible is because it opposes them. Following is a list of twenty two passages which condemn various teachings and practices of the Catholic Church.

1. Ex. 20:4 5 (Images)

2. Ezek. 18:20 (Original sin)

3. Matt. 20:20 28 (Hierarchy)

5. Matt. 23:9 ("Father")

6. Matt. 26:28 (Withholding cup)

7. Matt. 28:19 (Infant baptism)

8. Mark 7:8, 13 (Tradition)

9. Luke 11:27 28 (Adoration of Mary)

10. Luke 16:26 (Purgatory)

11. Luke 22:24 27 (Primacy of Peter)

12. Rom. 6:4 (Pouring)

13. I Cor. 1:2 ("Saints")

14. Gal. 4:9 11 (Special days)

15. 11 Thess. 2:4 (Pope has place of God)

16. I Tim. 2:5 (Many Mediators)

17. I Tim. 3:2 (Unmarried bishops)

18. I Tim. 4:3 (Forbid marriage)

19. 11 Tim. 3:16 17 (Many authorities)

20. Heb. 8:12 (Indulgence)

21. James 5:16 (Confess to priest)

22. I Pet. 2:5, 9 ("Priesthood")

No religious institution on earth has as much to fear about its members reading the Bible as the Catholic Church. When Catholics study the Bible they learn that in order to please God, they must discard the many false doctrines which their church has accumulated over the centuries. Following is an excerpt from an address given by the Cardinals to Pope Pius III, and is preserved in the National Library of Paris, Folio No. 1068, Vol. 2, pp. 650 651:

"Of all the advice that we can offer your holiness we must open your eyes well and use all possible force in the matter, namely to permit the reading of the gospel as little as possible in all the countries under your jurisdiction. Let the very little part of the gospel suffice which is usually read in mass, and let no one be permitted to read more. So long as people will be content with the small amount, your interest will prosper; but as soon as the people want to read more, your interest will fail. The Bible is a book, which more than any other, has raised against us the tumults and tempests by which we have almost perished. In fact, if one compares the teaching of the Bible with what takes place in our churches, he will soon find discord, and will realize that our teachings are often different from the Bible, and oftener still, contrary to it."

The Bible Condemns these 11 Catholic Doctrines

The Bible forcefully and clearly condemns many of the Catholic doctrines.

  1. It condemns clerical dress. Matt. 23:4-5 says, "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments."
  2. It teaches against the adoration of Mary. Luke 11:27-28 says, "And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, 'Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!' But He said, 'More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!'"
  3. It shows that all Christians are priests. 1 Pet. 2:5,9 says, "...You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ...But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light..."
  4. It condemns the observance of special days. Gal. 4:9-11 says, "But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days and months and seasons and years. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain."
  5. It teaches that all Christians are saints. 1 Cor. 1:2 says, "To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours..."
  6. It teaches that baptism is immersion instead of pouring. Rom. 6:4 says; "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Col. 2:12 says, "Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."
  7. It forbids us to address religious leaders as "father." Matt. 23:9 says, "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven."
  8. It opposes unmarried bishops. 1 Tim. 3:2-5 says, "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)..."
  9. It addresses only God Himself as the "Holy Father." John 17:11 says, "Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are."
  10. It shows that the great apostasy would forbid marriage. 1 Tim. 4:1-3 says, "Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth."
  11. It reveals that the great apostasy would have one who claimed to take the place of God. 2 Thess. 3:3-4 says, "Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

The Roman Catholic church is a church of ceremony, not of substance. God dosen't save in "mass", he saves ONE AT A TIME.
